“CERTIFICATES WILL BE NULL” MAGOHA SEALS THE Fate OF TEACHERS.
Aspiring teachers with a P1 certificate qualification who are yet to be absorbed by the teachers service commission have now a reason to worry after education cabinet secretary George Magoha gave a worrying affirmation to TSC’s proposed radical changes which seemingly seals the fate of teachers with P1 qualification.
While addressing the media at Sagam secondary school in Siaya where he commissioned a three classroom block, Magoha backed TSC’s proposals saying that certificates will be null and minimum qualification for entry into the teaching profession in the country at all levels will be caped at a diploma in education.
Magoha’s move to back the radical proposals has continued to kill the spirits of thousands of teachers who already have the P1 certificates but are yet to be employed by teachers service commission as statistics indicate that more than 300,000 teachers are already qualified but unemployed.
To make matters worse, the commission recently made public its intentions to hire 30,000 secondary school teachers with a freeze in hiring primary school tutors imposed for a three-year period.
This means that the radical proposals by the commission will catch up with the P1 teachers before they are employed forcing them to quit or enroll for diploma training which already has raised and strict qualifications that many may fail to meet.
What about those with diploma and still on the same scale as PI certificate holders
