Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has opened the portal so that students in Grade Six can choose the junior secondary schools they want to attend.

The portal opened on Monday, August 15, and the selection process will end on August 30, 2022, according to KNEC Chairperson David Njengere.

Njengere pointed out that the site was open despite the fact that schools were closed to give students time to choose their chosen secondary schools.

Students were instructed to log into the site, pick the Grade Six registration, and select their favourite schools in order to make their selection.

Njengere explained that the final Kenya Primary Schools Education Assessment (KPSEA) for Grade Six will be presented in multiple-choice format.

He added that for the Grade Six exams, KPSEA will follow the Basic Education Curriculum Framework, guidelines that were unveiled by the Ministry of Education in 2019.

KPSEA framework was developed by the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD). Grades Three, Four, Five, and part of Grade Six national assessments are formative, while learners will sit for a summative assessment at the end of Grade Six.

40% of the learners’ results will come from the summative assessment as their 60% will have come through tests taken in the classroom.

Most Parents and students were concerned that the tests will use the same format as the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examinations rather than the multiple-choice version (KCSE).

Grade Six learners will be evaluated in five topics during the summative assessment, beginning with Mathematics and English on the first day, followed by Integrated Science and Kiswahili on the second, and Creative Arts and Social Studies on the third.
